Ashley Childs is now part of the production team and first female knife maker for New West KnifeWorks quality chef’s knives in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
”Ashley Childs has an eye for detail. The new hire and first female knifemaker at New West Knifeworks has never wandered far from the world of form, function and beauty… and her unique skill set brings grace to an industry known for its grit. Infamous for her minimalist, sculptural aesthetic and talent for swinging a hammer, Childs’ large life has taken her from the fashion runways of New York City to an iron forge in Buenos Aires and all the way to the Wyoming mountains.”
Ashley studied photography and silver gelatin printing in Vermont. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago with an emphasis in sculpture and studied goldsmithing at Alan Revere’s Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco. In 2016 she dove headfirst into the arduous world of blacksmithing, studying multiple times at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina with Jay Burham Kidwell, Seth Gould and later with other masters including Jim Austin of The Wrought Academy in Oakland, CA. In 2018 Ashley closed her fine jewelry business to focus her attention on a new life in Wyoming. // ig: @ashleychilds, email@example.com
