be still

Be still, be still and wait,
reserve the time for patience to follow.
Patience will fall off your limbs,
each feather a minute,
each wing a year.
Be still enough to gather the embers,
each gasp, burned off in flight.
Watch their softness fall,
a fine, slow dust, seen only,
through your silver lenses,
clear as a starry night sky.
Particles, adding up to memories,
you will soon forget.
Belly laughs,
you haven't expressed yet,
and time, darling,
a drop of crystal salt from your weary eyes.
Don't give up,
give in to patience,
please wait,
please wait for your wings,
your limbs, your year.
